Hi, I’m Emily!

MA, LPC

Child Therapist | Pronouns: she/her/hers

Ages 3 - 12 | Accepts: Caresource & Self Pay

Dr. Stuart Brown spent his life researching the value of play across the lifespan. He found that there are 8 different ways we all engage in play - yes, even adults! According to his Play Personalities, I am:

  • The Storyteller: As a lifelong avid reader, I love to use my imagination!

  • The Joker: I LOVE to be goofy! It is my preferred language.

  • The Creator: I enjoy the freedom to create without rules or directions. Whether that is making something unique for one of my penpals or using beads to create jewelry, bookmarks or keychains- it all is fun and definitely my go-to when I need to emotionally regulate!

FUN FACTS:

  • I love to clean and organize - it soothes my soul and calms my brain.

  • Speaking of brains, I am an ADHD-er and I enjoy helping children learn to navigate their ADHD brains.

  • I lead several snail mail, pen pal groups.

  • Dogs are my favorite animals.

  • One of my hidden talents is beading!

APPROACH TO COUNSELING

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty” - Maya Angelou

This quote highlights an important part of what drew me to counseling: the importance and value of the process it takes to become the best versions of ourselves. My hope is to create a safe place where you and your child feel welcome to share all parts of yourselves so that you both feel comfortable to explore what brought you to counseling in the first place. I want to empower you and your child to better navigate the challenges of life and learn new, healthier ways of coping.

I believe in the healing power of play. In my work, I utilize play based interventions to support children who are struggling with a variety of concerns, including trauma, grief and loss, attachment and family concerns, oppositional behaviors, anger management, ADHD, depression, anxiety, disordered eating, and adjustment issues. I utilize a mix of directive and non-directive play therapy approaches so that I can best meet the unique needs of my clients. Under the supervision of Machen Champion (practice owner), I am pursuing my Registered Play Therapist credential and will begin training in Synergetic Play Therapy in 2022.
